Love, Lies & Legacy- chapter 18
CHAPTER 18
"Jesse!" I shouted on the top of my lungs. But I know so well that he would not hear me because of all the screaming of other people. I ran aimlessly around the halls, trying to find my dressing room. I then stopped in the middle of a hallway and leaned against the wall, trying to catch my breath. I was crying and scared. I looked around the hall and on my left was a corner that led to the stairs. I almost screamed at the sight of a gun's nozzle.
My tears were streaming down. The shooter was only down the hall from me and I could not move. Slowly the man with the gun appeared. He lifted his arm up to aim the gun directly at me. Even thought he was a good 30 feet away from me, I knew the bullet could still hit me.
Suddenly my body was slammed to the opposite wall as I heard the first gunshot being fired. "Stay close to me and run," someone whispered to me. I could feel a firm arm around my waist as we both turned around and ran. Another 3 shots were fired as we both ran down the hallway. Miraculously, none of them hit me. Then I was pulled into one of the rooms and I took a good look at my savior.
"At the corner of the room, behind the curtain is a hidden door. Follow the path and I will be right behind you," said Darius while locking the door.
"Where does it lead to?" I asked, confused by Darius’s intentions.
"It leads to the garage. You are more important now Sienna. Just go, I will barricade this door so we have some time to get out," he said fiercely.
There was a slam on the door as the shooter tried to burst in. I hesitated for a while to go through the door. I was told to be careful around Darius but he was the one who saved me.
I opened the hidden door and ran inside. I ran along a narrow path until I reached a flight of stairs. I did not hesitate to run down the stairs. Behind me I could hear Darius's footsteps. At the bottom of the stairs, there was another door that led me outside the châteaux. In front of me was the SLK 200K Mercedes black sports car that I saw at Annaliese's house.
"Get in the car. He knows we are here," said Darius sternly. I immediately opened the car door and stepped inside. Darius turned the ignition and the car roared to life. He stepped on the pedal and I could hear the screeching of tires. We were on the road, Darius speeding at 150 miles per hour.
“Where are you taking me?” I asked aggressively.
“Away from here. Somewhere safe. Trust me on this,” he said, clutching real hard on the steering wheel.
“How can I trust you, Darius? I don’t even know you. Plus throughout this whole time I knew you, you have been nothing but secretive. How can I have faith with someone as enigmatic as you?” I asked heatedly.
“I saved your life Sienna. Is that not enough for you?” he shot back.
Suddenly Darius's cell phone rang which almost startled me to death. He took it out and placed it on the adapter in front of the gearbox and pushed the talk button.
"Darius! Are you all right?" said the horrified voice of Annaliese on the loudspeaker.
"I am fine," he said while taking up more speed.
"And Sienna?" she asked, her words dripping with fear.
"I am here, Annaliese. I'm ok thanks to Darius," I said, finding it really hard to say those last words even thought there were true.
"Oh thank god, you are all right. Well done Darius," she said with a sense of relief.
"Did you really think I would leave Sienna there?" he asked.
"I have no doubt you will save her. I am just surprised you did it very quickly," she said.
"The shooter pointed a gun to her. Who would have done this?" he asked, controlling his rage.
"We will talk about that later. What matters now is that you both are safe. Bring her straight home, Darius. Do not stop anywhere,' she said aggressively.
"Yes, mother," he said. Mother? Annaliese is Darius's mother? God, this boy is full of secrets and I was starting to get mad for not knowing any of this. It seems like I am the last person to know everything. But still could not shake off the fear. The feeling when then the gun was pointed directly at me, burned inside my head. Darius had a lot of explaining to do but I was too tired and shaken to ask.
"Take a rest. It will be along ride. I will wake you up when we get there," Darius said soothingly. I looked into those breathtaking eyes and convince myself to trust Darius, for now. I leaned my head against the window and before I knew it, everything went dark.
